Sales is about people. Every person I have ever met has a story. In my years in RV sales many times the people I was helping purchase a RV were connected inside my own inner circle and I did not even know it. This is one of those stories by Chris Coats, one of our Sales Team members form our Pasco store location
It happened in July…..
“It was a hot Saturday morning around 11:30 AM on July 14. A few of us were standing together by the front desk waiting for customers when a mom and her son walked through the door. The CEL greeted them and asked if I was available. So we greeted and the three of us headed to my office. Once we sat down I ask them a few questions: one of them was, ‘what type RV are you looking for?” She said, I’m looking for a four-season trailer for my son to live in while he is in college at Walla Walla.” She shared that she was from Northern, California and had drove here because she wanted to find something near were her son was going to go to school. I asked her what part of California was she from. She replied, Burney. Well, that is where my brother lives. So what do you do in CA? I asked. Cindy replied, I work for PG&E. Wow, that’s where my brother works. Cindy asked me, what’s your brother’s name? I said, Nick Coates, he runs the Dam and he is water flow control operator. Cindy’s mouth dropped down to the desk. She looked back up at me and said, O MY GOSH! I have worked with your brother for 20 years, I do his payroll and all his time off requests. We stood up and hugged and she said I guess I’ve came to the right place. I said you were directed hear by a higher power. Cindy’s son Gunnar took out his phone and took a picture of this moment. (Photo attached) Then shared it with his mom Cindy who shared it with me. Cindy shared the photo with my brother and wrote in the text I found us a new employee. What do you think Chris’s brother Nick called Chris right away thinking, that’s my brother? He could not believe it, he was very confused at why Cindy was in a photo with me in Pasco, Washington. It’s a Small World After all. . We had a good laugh after I explained it all to him? Cindy somehow ended up finding me. We found a nice used Cougar travel trailer for Cindy and her son Gunnar. I have just adopted a sister 😀 they drove back after signing paperwork. It’s about a 10 hours drive home. I called her the next day to make sure they made it, she thanked me again for the hospitality and professionalism. I wish there were more people out there that fun and caring. It felt good that I was the one who I was able to help her and her son find a RV.
The moral of the story is this, “not only is this BIG World a lot smaller than you think it is, It also proves that you never know exactly how connected you are to that customer across: the counter, the desk or sitting in the RV with you is.. So let’s plan on being ready for these great moments and always have a camera or a smart phone ready to capture the moment. A smile help to.
