In 2014 my husband and I bought our first camper trailer. We were new to the North Idaho area and wanted to find a way to spend quality time as a family. At first we started out small and went to only familiar places. We often frequented Devil’s Elbow. We got to know the ins and outs of towing, setting up, breaking down and camping as a family. We always had a blast and made some great friends along the way.
In the spring of 2015 my husband Matt and I kicked around the idea of an ‘Epic Road trip’. We were both burnt out from our highly demanding jobs and just wanted to get away. We pulled out a map (just like the scene out of a movie) and pinned out our trip.
In June we set out for 3 weeks! We first stopped in Missoula, then hit Butte, next we spent over a week touring around Yellowstone, swung over to Jackson Hole and saw the Tetons on our way, hit Bozeman, went back to Butte, hit Missoula again and finally headed home.
Overall, the trip was magnificent! We had a bit of a minor setback in week one…someone (I just wanted to be prepared for everything!) had over packed the camper and the axel actually broke driving down 90! We spent 3 extra days in Butte because of the breakdown, BUT, we found an awesome hot spring to spend our free time at. We ate at some great local places along the way, shopped in the local towns and spent every night in the comfort of home, our camper.
Time stopped on that trip. We truly unplugged and spent some much needed quality time with each other. We played board games, sat around countless campfires, ate all of our meals together and had conversation. We took everything in, went wherever we felt like going and always had our bed to sleep in. We made great family memories that we still talk about to this day.
We will forever be happy campers <3
